Smedmore Bernard, Jr. ("Smed") is a Managing Director in Nova Group, GBC's Valuation & Advisory practice, with more than 20 years of experience in real estate appraisal and consulting. His expertise includes complex valuation assignments involving eminent domain, litigation support, ad valorem tax appeals, right-of-way acquisitions, easements, and partial and full takings. Smed is recognized as an expert witness in Illinois and has represented both private property owners and public agencies on a wide range of valuation matters. He is an active leader within the appraisal profession, currently serving as National Vice President of the Appraisal Institute and previously serving on its Board of Directors. He has also held leadership roles with the International Right of Way Association and The Appraisal Foundation.
