Structural Engineer/Senior Project Manager

Location: Remote (San Francisco Bay area/Northern California preferred)

About Nova and the Role:

The Nova Group, GBC Equity Team is seeking established structural engineers who are looking to utilize their experience in structural building design, and seismic evaluations and retrofit in the commercial real estate market.

Nova works with commercial Reals Estate Owners, Investors, Developers, REITs, Contractors, and other stakeholders to provide a wide variety of structural engineering services, seismic consulting, and due diligence services. Our projects range in size and scope, and we are always striving to grow our presence in our communities nationwide

Desired Education and Experience:
  • B.S. degree in Civil/Structural Engineering from an accredited university

  • E.I.T. certification required; P.E. license preferred

  • Minimum experience requirements:

  • 3 years’ experience in seismic design of building structures

  • 2 years’ experience in seismic evaluation of existing building structures (ASCE 41, Seismic Risk Assessments, or similar)

Position Responsibilities:
  • Travel to existing building sites for inspection and evaluation

  • Identification and evaluation of exterior building elements, as defined by California SB-721

  • Extensive review of as-built documentation, reports, and existing building condition

  • Find and collect information regarding local site hazards and condition of existing building sites

  • Prepare written reports to evaluate existing building structures and perform a seismic risk assessment (SRA)

  • Interface with clients on project-specific issues

  • Quality control of technical content

Ideal Candidate:
  • Located in Northern California

  • Communicates clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing

  • Self-sufficient, initiative, and desire to learn about the commercial real estate industry

  • Excels in independent/remote work, self-discipline, and time management

  • Familiar with codes and standards applicable to the design and construction of building projects located in California

  • Familiar with evaluation of existing building structures and the fundamentals of seismic and liquefaction hazard analysis

  • Familiar with structural irregularities, continuity, redundancy, and various structural retrofit methods

  • Ready and able to travel to various building sites for inspection and evaluation

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook

  • Current, valid state driver’s license (position requires a motor vehicle record background check)

  • Ability to analyze client-provided property description documents 

  • Ability and willingness to work effectively as a member of the Nova Team to support the needs and goals of Nova Clients

  • Ability to strictly adhere to deadlines on multiple simultaneous projects 

  • Strong communication and organizational skills

  • Strong technical writing skills and proven attention to detail
