Remedial Investigation and Corrective Design

Nova designs and implements Remedial Investigations (RI) and Corrective Action Design (CAD) programs for a wide variety of sites. An RI determines the nature, extent, and magnitude of a contamination. A CAD provides an action plan for any necessary remediation/cleanup. An RI/CAD also addresses the protection of public health and the environment.

Consistent with the RI/CAD process, Nova personnel develop a detailed feasibility study analysis to establish practical mitigation solutions that are feasible and can be cost-effectively implemented. The majority of Nova’s projects have been completed in response to mandates from regulatory agencies acting under authority of CERCLA, RCRA, and/or various other state and local programs.

Nova's Expertise

Nova has performed numerous remedial investigations to address soil and groundwater contamination, as well as vapor intrusion, involving a wide variety of chemical constituents, including:

  • Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), organic solvents

  • Polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), pesticides

  • Petroleum hydrocarbon products and metals

  • Agricultural chemicals

Nova has experience in the design and implementation of a wide array of corrective action technologies and methods, including natural attenuation, soil excavation for thermal treatment, land spreading, incineration & landfill disposal, groundwater pump and treatment, soil-vapor extraction, air sparging, contaminant plume control, vapor intrusion mitigation, and chemical oxidation and bio-remediation alternatives.

Storage Tank Management and Permitting

Nova provides specialized services related to storage tank management, including release investigation and corrective action implementation. Nova has made a significant commitment to maintaining in-house expertise in this rapidly changing regulatory environment. In addition, Nova provides underground and aboveground storage tank registration, permitting, and compliance services to ensure that storage tanks are operated in accordance with local, state, and federal requirements.

Nova helps clients understand the specific regulatory requirements and current state policies concerning tank ownership, release notification, and response. It designs investigations and corrective action plans to achieve regulatory compliance and maximize potential reimbursement.

In Addition, Nova has assisted numerous clients with public funding grant/reimbursement assistance for costs associated with both remedial investigation and corrective action under various funding program guidelines.

Nova’s services are tailored to meet the specific needs of each client and project. Throughout a project, Nova keeps clients informed regarding progress, alternatives, and costs. This allows clients to maintain ongoing control over both short-term and long-term project direction and expenditures.
