Environmental Compliance Professional

Location: Minneapolis (St. Louis Park), MN or Other Metro Areas - Remote 

Nova is seeking a Junior to Mid-Level Environmental Compliance Professional with 1 to 4 years of experience to join our Minnesota-based Environmental Compliance Group. Our team conducts a broad range of environmental compliance tasks across multiple jurisdictions in the U.S. This role offers a valuable opportunity to deepen your regulatory and compliance expertise and grow your career with Nova.

As a Junior to Mid-Level Environmental Compliance Professional, you will assist in providing services to our clients in key areas, including Air, Stormwater, Wastewater, Solid & Hazardous Waste (RCRA), EPCRA (Tier II, TRI Reporting, Pollution Prevention Plans and 302/304 notifications), SPCC, and Compliance Auditing. We are seeking candidates with foundational regulatory knowledge who are eager to broaden their experience across multiple environmental compliance areas.​

Job Description

Primary responsibilities will be to ensure clients maintain compliance with local, State and Federal environmental requirements. Assignments will range from small compliance support tasks to facility permitting projects, to comprehensive and ongoing environmental compliance management efforts on behalf of our clients. The Senior Environmental Compliance Professional will evaluate and deliver compliant environmental services and solutions in accordance with applicable local, State and Federal agency regulations nationwide. Nova is especially interested in candidates with extensive air permitting and air permit compliance management capabilities.

Job Responsibilities
  • Conduct reviews and audits to evaluate compliance with Local, State, and Federal environmental requirements 

  • Conduct regulatory applicability evaluations and determinations 

  • Evaluate operations, gather data, and complete permit applications  

  • Develop and assist with implementation of appropriate plans and procedures (SPCC, SWPPP, Emergency Contingency Plans, Tier II and TRI reports, etc.) 

  • Manage permit requirements and assist in development of compliance demonstration procedures and record keeping methods

  • Conduct environmental training services/webinars

  • Complete periodic and/or annual compliance reporting requirements

  • Efficiently coordinate and communicate services, options, risks, and results with clients in a wide range of industries

  • Discuss environmental compliance group service offerings with clients as needed

Minimum Requirements
  • 1-4 years of environmental compliance experience in the industry or consulting

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, engineering, or related discipline  

  • Basic knowledge of U.S. and state environmental regulations in core compliance areas  

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet regulatory and client deadlines  

  • Ability to develop and manage project scope, costs, and deliverables  

  • Strong technical writing and regulatory interpretation skills

  • Strong attention to detail, excellent critical thinking skills, and a high degree of accuracy

  • A high level of integrity and ability to take full ownership of assigned responsibilities

  • Current, valid state driver’s license with satisfactory driving record

  • Ability to travel up to 10%

Preferred Capabilities
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT), PE, CHMM or other professional certification

  • Experience in air emissions and permitting

  • Experience in EPCRA Tier II and TRI reporting

  • Some experience with project coordination

  • Client and account management experience

  • A proactive, client-focused approach to communication and service delivery
